International: Beijing +15 - activities around the world

22 September 2009

From March 1-12 2010, government delegations attending the UN Commission on the Status of Women will assess progress made in the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action (BPFA) 15 years since it was adopted at the UN Fourth World Conference on Women held in Beijing, China in 1995.

In anticipation of Beijing +15, governments and non-governmental organizations around the world are engaged in preparatory activities to assess progress made at both national and regional level and to identify gaps and challenges requiring accelerated action in the years ahead.

IANSA women are active in the process and linking with these cross cutting themes that relate to small arms (amongst others):

* Violence against women
* Women and armed conflict
* Women in power and decision-making
* Human rights of women

Many thanks to Mavic Cabrera-Balleza of the International Women’s Tribune Centre (IWTC) for sharing the compilation of Beijing +15 activities around the world.
