International: Indicators of Violence against Women (VAW)

01 April 2010

Experts on violence against women discussed the methodological challenges and the state of research on the costs, consequences and manifestation of gender violence during a workshop organised by the Geneva Declaration on Armed Violence and Development, 25-26 March 2010.

IANSA Women Carla Afonso from Portugal, Mirjana Dokmanovic from Serbia and Sarah Masters from UK attended the event. Rashida Manjoo, UN Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women was also at the workshop.

The Workshop critically reflected upon the challenges and opportunities for developing a methodologically robust system to track VAW across nations. The Workshop aimed to discuss how to use research and evidence for programming purposes and how to foster a systematic global, regional and national measuring and monitoring system on VAW and its impact on development that supports such programming efforts.
