NGO WG: Monthly Action Points for the UN Security Council - June 2011

31 May 2011

As a member of the NGO Working Group on Women, Peace and Security, we are pleased to share the latest Monthly Action Points (MAP) for the UN Security Council.

For June, in which Gabon has the Security Council presidency, the MAP provides recommendations on country situations including: Afghanistan, Cote d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Sudan. The June MAP also discusses current developments in the Council's implementation of its Women, Peace and Security commitments and the forthcoming report on Rule of Law.

The MAP also notes that "Gabon has committed to a number of international initiatives on the control of small arms and light weapons" and urges that, "Given that conflict-related violence against women is often committed through the use or threat of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW), the Security Council should continue to follow up on relevant recommendations in the Secretary General’s recent report on small arms (S/2011/255)."
