NGO WG: Monthly Action Points for the UN Security Council - June 2013

24 June 2013

As a member of the NGO Working Group on Women, Peace and Security, we are pleased to share the latest Monthly Action Points (MAP) for the UN Security Council for June 2013.

As you may know, IANSA women have long participated in the work of the NGO Working Group on Women, Peace and Security. Part of this is to contribute analysis and updates to the Monthly Action Points (MAP) for the UN Security Council. It has been some months since these updates were sent to you but we would like to share details of the most recent MAP for June 2013.

For June 2013, in which the United Kingdom has the Security Council presidency, the MAP provides recommendations on the situations in Afghanistan, Central African Republic, Cote d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia, Libya, Mali, Somalia, and Sudan/South Sudan.

Of particular note to IANSA women in Liberia is the call for the free flow of all relevant information that highlights the links between the illicit flow of small arms and light weapons and the occurrence of sexual and gender based violence. See the paragraph on Liberia for more details.
